Apathy
You feel a deep lack of interest, motivation, or concern about things that should matter to you. Apathy is when you can't bring yourself to care β not because you're lazy, but because something inside has gone quiet. It's different from peace; it's the absence of emotional engagement entirely.
What does apathy feel like in your body?
- β’Low energy without a clear physical cause
- β’Blank facial expression β flat and unresponsive
- β’Heavy limbs and slow movements
- β’Difficulty starting or completing tasks
Common triggers
- β’Burnout after caring too much for too long
- β’Feeling like nothing you do makes a difference
- β’Depression dimming your emotional range
- β’Repeated disappointments teaching your brain to stop hoping
Journaling prompts for when you feel apathy
- What did you used to care about that you've stopped caring about?
- If you could magically care about one thing again, what would it be?
- Is this apathy protecting you from something, and if so, what?
Healthy ways to cope with apathy
1. Start small β you don't need to care about everything, just find one tiny spark
2. Do something physical; sometimes action creates motivation rather than waiting for it
3. Talk to a professional β persistent apathy can be a sign of depression
