Emptiness
You feel hollow inside, like something essential is missing but you can't name what. Emptiness is the absence of feeling β a strange numbness where emotions used to be. It's unsettling because you're not sad exactly, not angry exactly... you're just... nothing.
What does emptiness feel like in your body?
- β’A literal hollow feeling in your chest or stomach
- β’Feeling detached from your own body
- β’Low energy without a clear physical cause
- β’Going through the motions without feeling connected to anything
Common triggers
- β’Losing your sense of purpose or direction
- β’The end of an intense period β relationship, project, or phase of life
- β’Suppressing emotions for too long until you stop feeling anything
- β’Disconnection from things that used to bring you joy
Journaling prompts for when you feel emptiness
- What used to fill you up that you've lost touch with?
- If this emptiness is making space, what would you want to fill it with?
- When was the last time you felt truly alive, and what was happening?
Healthy ways to cope with emptiness
1. Do something that engages your senses β cook, garden, take a cold shower, listen to music loud
2. Reconnect with activities that used to light you up, even if you don't feel like it
3. Talk to a therapist; persistent emptiness can be a sign your mental health needs support
