Writing 'I am grateful for my family' every day gets stale fast. These journal prompts for gratitude push you to be specific, look in unexpected places, and actually feel the appreciation instead of just listing it.
How to use these prompts
- •Choose one prompt and go into detail. One vivid answer beats five vague ones.
- •Write about why you are grateful, not just what you are grateful for.
- •Two or three times a week is plenty. Daily gratitude lists can start to feel like a chore.

Tips that make it stick
- •Specific beats general. 'My sister calling to check on me after my interview' lands harder than 'my family.'
- •Pause after writing and notice how gratitude actually feels in your body. Naming the feeling, whether it is warmth, relief, or contentment, helps it stick.
- •Turn one entry a week into a thank-you message to the person you wrote about.
- •Gratitude does not mean ignoring hard feelings. You can be grateful and struggling at the same time.
