31 Journal Prompts for Healing

Healing rarely happens in a straight line. These journal prompts for healing give you room to acknowledge what hurt, notice how you are already recovering, and imagine a life that is not defined by the wound.

How to use these prompts

  • •Start with the gentle sections before moving into the deeper ones. You set the pace.
  • •If a prompt feels like too much today, write 'not yet' and come back later. That is part of healing too.
  • •Close every session with something comforting, like tea, a walk, or a favorite song.

  4. 4.What do you wish someone had said to you at the time?
  5. 5.What part of this still surprises you when you think about it?
  6. 6.How has this pain shown up in your body, sleep, or habits?

Tips that make it stick

  • •Healing includes setbacks. A hard day does not erase your progress.
  • •Try to name the specific feeling that comes up, like grief, betrayal, relief, or anger. Healing often moves faster once a feeling has a name.
  • •If you are healing from trauma or abuse, consider working with a trauma-informed therapist alongside your journaling.
  • •Reread old entries every few months to see how your voice has changed.
