Rage

You feel anger that's gone nuclear — a white-hot, all-consuming fury that takes over your whole body. Rage is what happens when anger has nowhere to go, or when something deeply unjust pushes you past your breaking point. It's terrifying to feel this intense, but it's valid.

What does rage feel like in your body?

  • •Shaking or trembling with intensity
  • •Seeing red — literally altered vision or tunnel vision
  • •Heart pounding so hard you can hear it
  • •Muscles tensed and ready to explode

Common triggers

  • •Being deeply disrespected or dehumanized
  • •Witnessing a severe injustice, especially against someone vulnerable
  • •Feeling powerless in a situation that's deeply unfair
  • •Someone hurting someone you love

Journaling prompts for when you feel rage

  1. What pushed you from anger into rage, and what does that tell you?
  2. Where in your body do you feel rage most intensely?
  3. What would the healthy, powerful version of this rage look like?

Healthy ways to cope with rage

1. Physical release is essential — run, scream into a pillow, do an intense workout
2. Do NOT make decisions or send messages while in the grip of rage; create space first
3. Ground yourself: press your feet into the floor, squeeze ice cubes, splash cold water on your face
